You Have Spent Decades Becoming The Coach You Are. What Happens To That Work When You Stop?

From the desks of Dr. Steve Jeffs and Erwin de Grave

The Guiding Matrix

June 2026

Dear Coach,

If you have been coaching for 15, 20, 30 years, you already know what you are good at. You have your methods. You have your clients. You have a reputation built over a lifetime.

And somewhere in the background, a question keeps getting louder.

What happens to all of this when you stop?

Most coaches we speak with at this stage have not answered it. They built something real, but the something only exists while they keep showing up. The day they stop, the practice stops. The methods live in their head. The clients lose their coach. The work ends with the coach.

That is not a legacy. That is a career that ran out of runway.

If you want what you built to mean something after you step back, you have to design it that way. It does not happen on its own.

We built something for exactly this. We call it “The Legacy Bridge”.

Why We Built This

The Guiding Matrix exists because we kept seeing the same gap. Coaches with extraordinary practices, decades of methods, reputations the profession respects, and no infrastructure for what happens to any of it when they step back. The work disappears with the coach, not because the coach failed, but because nobody built the structures the profession needs.

Between us, we have spent our careers on the two sides of that gap. Steve from inside the craft. Erwin from inside the business of building, growing, and running companies. The Legacy Bridge is what happens when those two sides sit down with one coach at a time and work the question together. It is four weeks instead of twelve because clarity should not take a quarter. It ends with a roadmap instead of a built business because building takes years and lying about how fast we can do that would not serve you.

What The Legacy Bridge Is

It is a four-week, one-on-one engagement. It gives you clarity on your legacy and a roadmap to reach it.

It is not implementation. We do not build your legacy for you in four weeks, and we would not pretend to. What we do is more useful at this stage. We help you see clearly what your legacy actually is, where your business stands against it today, and what has to happen to close the gap.

You walk away with four things.

Clarity on what your legacy means to you. Not a generic answer. Yours. Is it products that keep serving coaches after you stop? A business someone can buy? A structure that runs without you? Your name carried forward? Time with your grandchildren, paid for by work that continues? Legacy means different things to different coaches, and the first job is naming yours.

A clear-eyed review of your business as it is now. What is working, what is missing, what you have already built and can use, and what you have been avoiding.

A gap analysis. The honest distance between where you are and where you need to be to reach the legacy you named.

A high-level roadmap. The sequence of what needs to happen to cross that gap.

The roadmap is the bridge. It connects where you stand today to the legacy you want to leave. That is why we call it the Bridge.

None of this is a template. There is no slide deck we run you through. The four weeks are built around your practice, your methods, your clients, your situation, and the specific shape of the legacy you want to leave. Two coaches in the Bridge at the same time would walk out with two different roadmaps because they came in with two different lives.

How It Runs

Before we start, you complete a short business review so we arrive already knowing your situation. No time wasted bringing us up to speed.

The engagement runs over four weeks.

It opens with a two-hour session with both of us. Steve and Erwin, with you, working through your situation together. Steve brings the coaching and business craft. Erwin brings the business and strategic lens. You get both in the same room.

Then you have three working calls, one each week, 90 minutes each. At least one is with Steve. At least one is with Erwin. The third is your choice. You decide who you want in the room based on where you want to go deeper.

What It The Investment

The Legacy Bridge is $6,000.

We normally charge business owners $15,000 to $25,000 for a consultation at this level. The Coaching Tools Company is part of The Guiding Matrix, the group we run together. Because you came to us through The Coaching Tools Company, you get the Legacy Bridge at $6,000.

The First Step Costs You Nothing

Before any of that, we talk.

The first step is a free business strategy and legacy call. No charge, no obligation, no pressure. We use it to understand what you have built, where you want to take it, and whether the Legacy Bridge is the right thing for you. If it is not, we will tell you, and where we can, we will point you toward what would serve you better.

We do these calls ourselves. You speak with Steve and Erwin directly, not a screener and not a junior advisor. We keep it close because the diagnosis is the part that matters most.

Why is the first call free?

Two reasons.

First, we like the work. Sitting with a coach who has built something real and helping them see clearly what they have and what is next is the part of this job we find most useful. We are happy to spend an hour on it whether or not the conversation turns into a Bridge engagement.

Second, this is how we find the right coaches to work with long term. If we work well together on the call and you decide to do the Bridge, we both get what we want. If we do not, you still walk out with a clearer view of your situation than you came in with, and we have not wasted either of our time.

Either way, you come out better than you went in.

At the end of the call, one of two things will happen.

You decide to take what you have and run with it. If that is where you land, we will wish you well and ask you to send us a note when the first piece falls into place. No biggie.

You decide the Bridge is the right next step, and we move into enrolment. Payment, then a booking link for your two-hour kickoff session with both of us.

That is the whole shape of it. No upsell on the call. No pressure. No follow-up campaign trying to wear you down later.

Who This Is For

The Legacy Bridge is for a specific kind of coach. The filter is short and firm.

1. You have been coaching for at least 15 years.

Legacy is not a question for someone three years in. This is for coaches with a body of work behind them.

2. You have a real practice.

Active clients, an established reputation, methods you developed or refined yourself. Not necessarily large. Real.

3. You are within roughly ten years of stepping back.

Could be three years. Could be eight. What matters is that the question of what happens next has started to feel real.

4. You want what you built to continue.

If you are happy to close the door and walk away with no second thoughts, this is not for you. This is for coaches who feel a responsibility to the work, the clients they have served, or the coaches who could carry it forward.

5. You will do the work.

Four weeks of focused thinking and honesty. We cannot name your legacy for you. We can pull it out of you, pressure-test it, and map the route. The clarity has to come from you.

If You Are Wondering Why A Master Coach And A Strategy Advisor Are Doing This Together

It is a fair question, and we expect it. Most coaching programs are run by coaches. Most business advisory is run by consultants. Legacy sits across both, which is why most coaches who try to address it alone end up with half a plan.

Steve brings the craft. He is an ICF Master Certified Coach, business psychologist, author, coach trainer, and supervisor who has spent more than two decades inside the coaching profession. As Director of Coaching at The Coaching Tools Company and co-founder of The Guiding Matrix, he helps coaches turn powerful conversations into work that is clear, teachable, and built to last. He has trained, mentored, and supervised practitioners across multiple coaching schools and methodologies, and worked with leaders and coaches around the world. When you describe your practice to him, he sees the uniqueness of your of the work and what will help your impact survive.

Erwin brings the structure and the strategy. He is a Certified Professional Coach, M&A Investor, and Strategic Advisor, with three decades of cross-border, multi-sector experience founding, growing, acquiring, and running businesses. He co-owns TGM and The Coaching Tools Company in coaching, and oGov Tech in technology. His consulting focuses on the questions sitting underneath legacy work: turning owner-operated businesses into professionally managed ones, building sellable practices, scaling through acquisition, and supporting exits. When you describe your practice to him, he sees it the way a future buyer or successor would.

You need both. Most coaches at this stage do not have access to both in the same conversation. The Legacy Bridge gives you that.

Here Is What To Do Next

If the fit looks right from your side, fill in the short application. It takes a few minutes. It asks what kind of coaching you do, where you are, and the one thing you would most want to change.

Here is what happens from there.

Within two business days, we review your application. If it looks like a fit, you get a link to book your free business strategy and legacy call. If we do not see a fit, we tell you, and where we can, we suggest something that might serve you better.

Your free call is 45 to 60 minutes with both Steve and Erwin. We work through your situation, your legacy questions, and what the next twelve months might look like. You walk out with a clearer view of where you stand, whether you enrol or not.

If you decide to move into the Legacy Bridge, we send the payment link. Once payment lands, you receive the booking link for your two-hour kickoff session. The four weeks begin whenever you book it.

If you decide not to, that is fine. No biggie. You keep what you took from the call.

One More Thing

This is one-on-one work, and both of us are in it. We can carry only a small number of coaches through the Legacy Bridge at any one time. When we are full, the next opening waits until we finish with someone.

If you have spent decades building this work and you have started to wonder what becomes of it, that question deserves a real answer. The first call is free. Apply now.
